The Birmingham Scene

Open panel discussion on the Birmingham jazz ecology with key figures of local scene including promoters and members of a pioneering Birmingham City University research group. This workshop aims at interacting with the dynamics of other scenes in Europe. What makes a scene ? How does it evolve and what are the tools to strengthen cooperation ?



Panelists will include promoters, musicians and researchers: 


Sarah Farmer         musician and co-director of Ideas of Noise festival 

Chris Young           musician and promoter, Brian Homer, photographer and organiser of Jazz in Birmingham

Jeremy Price         head of jazz at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire

Pedro Cravinho     researcher and archivist and Sam Slater, head of Stoney Lane Records
