Power Of The Horns (PL)
Power of the Horns, a band formed in 2007, relates to the most famous and influential avant-garde jazz big bands, such as Sun Ra Arkestra and Art Ensemble of Chicago. The aim of the band, more than working out a particular sound or performing specific compositions, seems to be looking for new possibilities, playing and working together.
Power Of The Horns was established in Katowice in 2007 on the initiative of Piotr “Damas” Damasiewicz. Trumpet player, multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger and the unquestionable leader of the band invited the extended brass section, two double bass players, a pianist and a drummer and created the free-jazz combo bringing to mind the legendary Young Power jazz orchestra.
After five years of rehearsals, Power of the Horns started playing concerts and their debut performance at the first edition of Katowice
Jazzart Festival in 2012 enchanted both the audience and the critics gathered in Gugalander club. This famous concert was recorded and released by Polish record label “For Tune” receiving enthusiastic reviews. “Alaman” album was considered one of the best jazz recordings of 2013. Within the next few years, the band has performed at jazz events in Poland and abroad in different configurations, always keeping the core formation of five brass players, two double bassists, a pianist and a drummer. In November this year Power of the Horns is performing with the legendary James Carter at one of the most famous jazz festivals in Poland – Jazz Jamboree.
